Attendance
Starside will be taking regular attendance. Starla Newberry, our Attendance Secretary, calls or emails families to check on students who have not notified the school of an absence by 10 AM.
Dropping off your child after the start of school
- Submit the absence online or call/email the office to notify the school that your child will be late. Please let us know the reason for the tardy (appointment, headache, or just running late).
- You DO need to safely escort your elementary child to the front door, or call the office to notify us of the arrival. Ring the bell and we will let your child inside.
- If we have not heard from a parent/guardian, the tardy will be marked as unexcused, so please notify the office of the reason for the tardy.
Checking your child out early
- Please call or email to notify the office and teacher ahead of time.
- Have an ID ready to show when picking up your child.
- Press the bell, show your ID, and let us know who you are checking out.
- We will let you inside where you may wait for your child in the foyer.
- We will locate your child and send him/her to you in the foyer.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and support during this time. If you have any questions, please call 913-667-6270 and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can!

- Good attendance is essential to success in school. Absences are at times unavoidable due to illness or family concerns.
- Students are expected to attend school and to be present and punctual for all classes each day that school is in session. The only acceptable reasons for absence are: Illness, court appearances, family emergencies (funerals, critical illness), religious holidays, and school-sponsored events.
- Absence due to illness will be excused upon receiving verification from the parent no later than the day the student returns to school. Students are expected to make up missed work. Building Principals may request a doctor’s statement if the absence is for more than three days in a row, five days per semester, or seven days in a school year.
- Absence by parent request for family and personal reasons is acceptable provided arrangements are made through the Building Principal in advance of the absence. An Extended Absence Form is required for all absences lasting 4 or more days. The number of absence days allowed for parent requests will be limited to five per semester. Make-up work is expected.
- Unexcused absences and repeated, excessive tardies are subject to disciplinary actions and may evolve into truancy under the Statutes of the State of Kansas.
